      Itinerary overview

      Day 1 – Arrival in Cape Town & Check-In

Welcome to Cape Town! Upon arrival, make your way to Riverlodge Backpackers or similar accommodation, where you will check in and settle into your accommodation. This is a self-guided tour, so you can spend the rest of the day at leisure depending on your arrival time.

If you arrive early, you may choose to explore the city centre, visit the V&A Waterfront, or enjoy a sunset at one of Cape Town’s beautiful beaches such as Camps Bay or Clifton. This first day is designed to be relaxed so that you can recover from your travels and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

      Day 2 – Robben Island & V&A Waterfront

Today you will visit one of South Africa’s most important historical landmarks, Robben Island. Make your way to the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront, where you will board the ferry to the island. The experience includes a guided bus tour around the island as well as a guided visit to the prison, where you will see Nelson Mandela’s former prison cell and learn about the history of South Africa’s struggle for freedom.

After returning to the mainland, spend the afternoon exploring the V&A Waterfront. With its wide variety of restaurants, shops, markets, and entertainment, it is one of the most popular areas in Cape Town. You can also choose to visit the Two Oceans Aquarium or enjoy a boat cruise from the harbour. Return to your accommodation in the evening.

Day 3 – Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch & Groot Constantia

Start your day with a visit to Table Mountain using your Fast Track Cableway ticket, allowing you to skip the queue and enjoy more time on top of the mountain. Take in the incredible panoramic views of the city, ocean, and surrounding mountains, and explore the walking paths on the summit.

From Table Mountain, continue to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. Take a walk through the gardens, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and walk along the famous Boomslang Canopy Walkway.

In the afternoon, visit Groot Constantia, the oldest wine estate in South Africa. Here you can enjoy an optional wine tasting, explore the historic manor house, and take in the beautiful vineyard views. After a relaxing afternoon, return to your accommodation for the evening.

Day 4 – Cape Peninsula Scenic Tour & African Penguins

Today is a full-day scenic journey around the Cape Peninsula. This is one of the most beautiful drives in South Africa, so starting early is recommended. Travel along the Atlantic Seaboard, passing Clifton and Camps Bay, before continuing to Hout Bay. From here, continue along Chapman’s Peak Drive, a world-famous coastal road known for its spectacular views.

Visit Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, where you can explore the cliffs, beaches, and walking trails. There is also an optional funicular that takes you up to the lighthouse for incredible views.

In the afternoon, visit Boulders Beach near Simon’s Town to see the African Penguin colony. After your visit, return to Cape Town via Muizenberg. This will be a long but unforgettable day filled with some of the best scenery in the country.

      Day 5 – Check-Out & Departure

      FAQ

      General

The Cape Town Big 6 are the city’s six most iconic destinations: Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, Robben Island Museum, V&A Waterfront, Groot Constantia, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, and Cape Point.

Most visitors explore the Big 6 over two to three days, but to truly enjoy each experience, we recommend spending four to five days in Cape Town.

Yes, it’s best to book online before visiting, especially for Robben Island and the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, which can sell out on busy days or be weather-dependent.

Absolutely. All six attractions welcome families, and several (like the V&A Waterfront and Kirstenbosch) offer open spaces, restaurants, and safe areas for children to explore.

Cape Town can be enjoyed year-round. Summer (November – March) offers clear skies and long days, while winter (May – August) brings cooler weather but fewer crowds and lush scenery.

Book a Full Tour through us. Or all six are within easy driving distance of each other. Visitors often use guided tours, ride-sharing apps, or the Hop-On Hop-Off City Sightseeing Bus, which connects most of the Big 6 locations.
